Let me know what you guys come across. Let's fill up the IHS calendar!!

Proof in Actions

We must reach the heart. To reach the heart, we must DO—love is proven in deeds. People are attracted more by what they see than by what they hear. If people wish to help, let them come and see. The reality is more attractive than the abstract idea.

Meals for the Needy

Come on out to The CK Corral for a great afternoon of cooking! We are going to be making home cooked meals for St. James Catholic Church food pantry every second Sunday of the Month! Feel free to bring the men!

Meeting

I'd love to get together for a meeting to talk about wonderful little group starting up. I was thinking of meeting at Denny's in Moreno Valley for an after dinner treat. What do you all think? I'm working on some possible dates. Any idea? The sooner the better.

Imitation of Christ

Today I unpacked my copy of The Imitation of Christ.  I used to read a little bit of it every night before bed, but I admit it has been too long since I've picked it up, so I decided to keep it on my nightstand.

If you do not own a copy of The Imitation of Christ you should.  I found this particular book on Etsy.com, it was falling apart when I got it and luckily my husband was able to fix it.  Just reading a small amount each day is a good thing.

This time I think I might start my day with Thomas a Kempis rather than read it at night. Maybe I will be able to absorb it better.

Urgent Prayer Request

A family in Menifee has just learned that their son Tristan ( 9 yrs.old ) has Leukemia. His mother Monique has been practically living @ the hospital and sounds so very weary. Please help "storm Heaven" with prayers of healing and rest for this young boy and his family.

Dear St. Peregrine pray for them!

What is IHS?

I sit here and wonder, "OK, so I really feel called to put myself In HIS Service, but wonder how do I go about doing this?" I've never done a blog before. I'm not even sure if this is the right platform to use to do this. I don't want to be attached to a computer several hours a day writing things on a blog that will end up being a waste of time. After all, I could be spending my time taking the kids to visit their grandma or great aunt. So I think, what is the point? What exactly should IHSCatholics become? I don't want it to just become a blog. I think it really needs the human element (with the help of the Divine).

The point is that our God knows and loves us more than we can fathom, and in response, I desire to know, love, and serve Him better. Can IHSCatholics be a means in which I can better know, love, and serve Him? If we love Him, we will follow His commandments- To love the Lord our God with our whole mind, heart, soul, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. It sure helps when a person has the support of the people around him/her. I also am aware that we can bring each other down, get each other into trouble, be afraid to talk about things that are important for fear of offending others. I am guilty- guilty of silence, neglect, laziness, false accusations, etc., etc., etc. I am human, my husband is human, my kids are human. We need each other's support. Can  IHS then a Catholic support group for human Catholic families trying to practice their Faith?

So if IHS then is a support group, what exactly is our focus?
These are some of my ideas:
  1. Know- Faith formation in line with Holy Mother Church (I don't think this can be done on our blog but links, reading lists, events, and speakers can be shared. Maybe we can meet for apologetics classes and Catholic conferences, or find online catechesis classes.)
  2. Love- Spiritual formation ( I don't think this can be done on our blog either but encouragement for each other to go to adoration and sacraments, quotes from the saints, or links to great music sure help.) Rosary nights and different people's houses followed by a fun event might be great.
  3. Serve- (Love in action) The Works of Mercy- Service! Service! Service! These opportunities can be listed on the calendar.
  4. Good ole fashion clean fun! Yeah! (To keep us out of trouble) This can be spread on our calendar! Movie nights, BBQs, etc.
What do you all think? Is it too broad? Could it work? What could our mission statement be?

I am hopeful that IHSCatholics will become a network of friends and family that desire to not only grow in their faith, but to become saints. Particularly after reading and watching saint stories lately, this seems like a tall order. We live in a time when there is so much evil around and it is presented as good. It muddles the phrase, "Death but not sin!" Christ died for us. What are we willing to do for Him?

the devil

“The Devil is like a mad dog tied by a chain. Beyond the length of the chain he cannot catch hold of anyone. And you, therefore, keep your distance. If you get too close you will be caught. Remember, the Devil has only one door with which to enter into our soul: our will. There are no secret or hidden doors. No sin is a true sin if we have not willfully consented.” ~ St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina

Adoration

I love logging on to this blog to find out what is waiting for me. The other women's post always give me much to think about, like the last post. The quote from St. Catherine LabourĂ©.

The moment I read that I thought about adoration, and how it's been too long and I should go very soon.

Saint John the Baptist in Costa Mesa has a 24 hour adoration chapel and I often go there even for just 10 minutes when I feel I need some direction. I believe adoration is very important for me (for all). Placing myself before the Lord in such a way helps me to de-clutter my thoughts and reconnect with God.

Of course the Lord is just as present in the Tabernacle as He is when exposed on the altar, and even though God is always with us, being so close to Him in His Church without any distractions is something so beneficial to us spiritually.

The feeling of peace, not just "peace & quiet", but peace in your spirit is undeniable after a visit with our Lord in adoration.

Lord, I Am Here

Whenever I go to the chapel, I put myself in the presence of our good Lord, and I say to him, “Lord, I am here. Tell me what you would have me to do.” If he gives me some task, I am content and I thank him. If he gives me nothing, I still thank him since I do not deserve to receive anything more than that. –St. Catherine LabourĂ©

All For His Glory

"I have the right to do anything," you say, but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything," but not everything is constructive.
"No one should seek their own good, but the good of others...so whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Cor. 10:23, 24, 31
Dear Hearts,
Here St. Paul draws on such an important concept. In todays society, anything and everything goes, all in the name of "freedom." But we need to remember that freedom is a gift given to us by our Heavenly Father. We do not have a "right" to do that which goes against God's law- that which is not beneficial to our journey to heaven and our aim for sainthood.
We do not have a right to contribute to the world that which will only pollute it. Rather, we have been blessed with the opportunity to contribute to it that which is beautiful and that which is constructive! How beautiful is that! We can be instruments of the King of Glory to make this world a beautiful place. And get this, in doing so, we only get closer and closer to perfect happiness, joy, and splendor! We can be saints!

What Is Faith?

What is faith? What challenges your faith? When have questions or confusion about your faith led to personal growth?
A catechism I once read defined faith as “the virtue by which we firmly believe all the truths God has revealed, on the word of God revealing them.” But faith is more than that. Faith is also believing in God’s plan for our lives, every part of it. We must give our complete trust to Him, and being able to do that is having faith.

Living in a world of family, friends, and co-workers who do not share the same faith is always challenging. The greater challenges however come from those who have no real faith at all and as a result usually have no moral code by which to live. In today’s world your faith must be strong to stand up to those challenges the world presents.

My conversion to the Catholic Faith has been the greatest experience of personal growth I’ve ever known. The faith I have today has not always been as strong as it is now, and it didn’t come overnight either. I found the most difficult thing for me to have faith in was being worthy enough to receive God’s love. Once I overcame that dilemma the answers to my questions were easier to understand and much less confusing.

How would you answer these questions? What comes to mind when you think about faith, your faith, and how does it impact your life?
